ª To start from the Beginning, the ACES were started in the city of Bellflower Ca. In 1952 by several members including the late Bob H Sr. During the 60's the club slowly grew apart and eventually dissolved. Many years later. In the Yr. 2001 Bob H Jr. and Friend Dana were conversing about the camaraderie of Car Clubs and their Members, at that time Bob mentioned that his father (Bob H Sr.) was a founding member of a car club that originated in 1952. Bob remembers many stories about the Club and the early days of Hot Roding, his father spoke of his club that was then, and now is called the ACES in Bellflower Ca. Bob's Father spoke of the ACES early days when he attended Excelsior High School (which is also where the movie "Grease" was partly filmed) and Graduated with the class of 1955. Bob Sr. at the time worked at a Filling Station at the corner of Firestone and Norwalk Blvd. where many Hot Rodders stopped to fill up for the evening. Bob Sr. while growing up Knew personally the man that every person seems to have on the back of their shirts these days, non other then Von Dutch. Bob would often say the man was Crazy, he would speak of times they would bet people $5 that they could ride an old Harley to the end of the pier at the Long Beach Pike, standing on the seat with arms stretched out. That's right CRAZY!!! But on a good day they would walk away with $100. (you might not think that is alot, but remember this was the 50's) Bob Sr. would also speak of the Barris Bros. that he also knew personally, and other Hot Rodders of the day. Other clubs such as the 'Jokers" and the "Sultans" which are still together to this day. Back to the Beginning as Bob was talking to Dana he mentioned that his father passed away 2yrs prior, and ran across things from his old Hot Roding days. So they decided to resurrect his father's old club and that is how the ACES were Reborn. At this time we have a small but close club that take pride in working on their own cars and helping each other with their cars. This is where the ACES began. |
